The following are excerpts from a recent interview with Mr. Henderson. We believe that his passion and dedication to the practice of law, family, and service are evident in this interview. Q. You were telling me earlier about how you felt your personal background has really influenced your approach to the practice of law. Tell me more about that. A. Absolutely. No doubt
about it. Having been raised on a farm in the farmlands of the
Mississippi Delta, I learned early on the principle of hard, very hard
work. I like to think of myself as a poor ole country boy from
Sunflower County, Mississippi who through relentless hard work, great
parents, and the Good Lord, made it to the big office in a high rise
overlooking the financial center of the south - Atlanta, Georgia. Q. Has the move from Atlanta to the country caused any adverse affects on your law practice? A. Not at all. Quite to the contrary! In this day and age of business by the Internet, international conference calling and the like, global companies are engaging in daily business and legal transactions affecting parties in various parts of the world. The world seems to be getting smaller. Now days a lawyer can be far more effective and productive in a more serene environment if they desire to do so. Just look at the great novelists Hemingway and Grishom (who, by the way is also from Mississippi). They didn't go to the very center of the nearest, busiest, and biggest city they could find to find the necessary place of peace and solace to do their greatest works! Busy is good. Too busy is not. Hey, I'm happier, more productive, more efficient, more effective than I've ever been in my twenty years in the legal profession. Q. What type of legal cases do you enjoy working on the most. A. Exactly the type I am involved with now. I mean after twenty years of doing this I've learned to be selective. It is a bad thing for a client to have hired a lawyer or law firm that when they think of that client's file, they're thinking "man, I wish I had never taken that case. I know this may seem to be a disingenuous, self-serving statement; but, the truth is if I think a case is not one in which I feel zealous about, one that I can have the attitude "you better look out, if you don't give us what we want and deserve", you'll regret "just saying no"; I really try not to take it. I don't seek out cases, I seek out causes. Q. Well, are there any particular areas of the law that you enjoy the most? A. Yes. Those areas I enjoy and am engaged in the most are noted on my website at www.TempleGaLawyer.com, are they not? Q. Yes, That's true. But, could you tell me why you like those areas most? A. Sure. Well, number one because I'm very good at what I do in those areas. Number two, those areas are the areas that are the most challenging and interesting to me. I'm now out of the "rat race" and I have more time to devote to fewer, more intriguing, challenging cases. Clients are not usually best served by entrusting their legal concerns, whether it is the interpretation of a Himalayan clause in an overseas shippers bill of lading in Seoul, Korea, a comparative negligence issue in a tractor-trailer fatal crash, or a record label's attempt to avoid an independent accounting to a lawyer or law firm too busy or uninterested in effectively helping the client achieve a favorable outcome. Hey, I'm certainly not trying to suggest that I'm "holier than thou". I've been doing this over twenty years. I have learned this from my own past experiences. Why do you think I didn't like the view from the mountain top? The Army wants a few good men. I just want a few good cases that I can become deeply immersed in.
